When Dale Earnhardt was killed on the Dale Earnhardt The Godfather 1951 signature shirt final lap of the 2001 Daytona 500, every single fan of NASCAR felt the loss. (Even those who knew nothing about the sport knew who Dale Earnhardt was.) Fans of Dale Earnhardt had to reconcile that while they would forever be fans of the driver of the No. 3, they would also have to decide where to transfer their loyalty if they were to continue to follow the sport. Some chose loyalty to Richard Childress Racing, some chose another Chevrolet driver, but the vast amount of racing fans made a logical transference to Dale Earnhardt Jr. The death of someone like Dale Earnhardt sends people into deep thought about losing a parent, or perhaps losing a child or other loved one. The NASCAR community is protective of Earnhardt Jr and fiercely protective of the memory of Dale Earnhardt. What began as new-found loyalty, escalated into strong support for a young man who has a likable personality.
To address the comment of “it sheds a bad Dale Earnhardt The Godfather 1951 signature shirt light onto the sport,” I would have to opine that a decade after the passing of Dale Earnhardt, his son continues to be a draw to the sport in question. Earnhardt Jr also continues to be voted a most popular driver annually, and he continues to be marked as a fan favorite by any poll the media presents. The fact that he has been winless in the Sprint Cup series for 95 races and counting does not seem to diminish his popularity. In fact, it might be enhancing it since often fans of sports and competitions root for what they perceive to be “the underdog.” (That is speculation on my part.) I find it perplexing that it would cast a bad light on any sport to have popular players.
